The Workaholic

THE WORKAHOLIC’S DAILY RECITATION
Today’s is a new day,
It’s another day to achieve something.
There are many things to do;
The dirty floor, faulty car engine, exhausted cooking gas, shaky bank account, the hungry nations, the crying babies, the homeless people
I have to do something to help them!
I must right these wrongs!
And even if I’m tired and stressed out, and my head is a storm of mess, I’ll still keep on doing it
Because that’s what brings my fufilment;
My Productivity.
So, no work, no play.
No work, no peace.
And you can bring me my food at my desk
Come meet me in my office if you need my attention
Because that’s where I’ll be TWENTY-FOUR SEVEN
Till I’m done with my all tasks!
Till I’m done being productive!
(Which I never actually think I will be)
So help me God, Amen.

Welcome to the world of Workaholics. It’s a big world, and I’m sure many of you are very familiar with this world, in fact, we are citizens.👨‍💼😅

Here’s my definition of a workaholic. In my words, a Workaholic is a person who loves to work so much that work is his number one priority in life. Heey, (whispering) come here, let me tell you something, if the first thing to think of when you open your eyes in the morning is your ‘work’, sorry dude, you fall under this class. There is no debate.

Looking at the four temperament types , you’ll see that one of the four has the tendencies- in fact- qualities of a workaholic. Yes, and that’s the Lengendary Choleric🎉👏👏👏✨💐. To a Choleric, Work is life 😅😂🤭. I’m sorry if that offends you, but it’s true. A typical Choleric always wants to be involved in one activity of the other. He is restless 🙄😥. From this task to another, to another, and another, and guess what, it’s fun to him! Of course work can be interesting, yes it can, but for a Choleric, he almost can not see anything possibly boring in work especially if it involves individual effort, or do-it-yourself skills. A Choleric only wants to get involved in different interesting tasks throughout the day that he forgets to realise life is more than just work.

Just like the Choleric, a Workaholic has the tendencies to place work above everything thing else and will not realise that he has made it his number one priority in life.
There is a mentality responsible for this operation. Every Workaholic believes that the achievement of a goal is very important, and until that goal is achieved, they place almost every other thing behind themselves until they are done achieving that goal. Well, that’s called responsibility. But here’s where the mistake comes in; the workaholic believes “I must do it all, now, all by myself”, that’s where the problem is.

As individuals, some of us are gifted with the gift of observation. We can easily see a wrong in something. For some of us, it’s easy to spot out a problem, a stain, an imperfection that others may not see, and not only can we spot out this problem, we are able to see the potential damages the problem carries and we are able to work out just how to solve this problem. Yes, dear, it’s a gift! So when we see these problems, we are alerted and do something about it, and until we take the problem out of the way, we can’t seem to take it off our hearts. We’re like, “it’s time to eat my amala and Okra, but what if I solve this problem first, I’ll eat the food with more happiness”, or we’re like “I can’t concentrate on this assignment, because all of my mind is in that problem, I really need to solve it now”😅 My brother, we give ourselves a lot of responsibilities! That been said, observation can come with the bad habit of anxiety. So let me bring it together for you well.

A Workaholic has the ability to observe a problem (insight), as a result of his desire to solve it, anxiety steps in, in response to the anxiety, he puts in all his attention and time until he is able to totally solve it. That’s the cycle.
Observation—>Anxiety—>Work marathon.
But hey, I’m writing this article to tell you that you cannot do everything that you see.

Sadly.

That you see problems doesn’t mean you’re the appointed savior for that problem. It doesn’t mean you’re the one that ‘has’ to do it. When you try to carry all the work on your shoulders, you end up over working yourself and none of the fifteen tasks you carry will get to be done at the end of the day.

Overloading yourself does many harm to you than you can imagine.
-It takes away your peace. This alone is like living in hell.
-Other aspects of your life will suffer from lack of attention.
-You’re in for big mental stress
-Of course you’re also in for physical stress
The list goes on.

As a visionary and goal setter, what you need to understand is that everything in life has a priority and time of administration. You cannot place your work over God and your relationships, those two things are vital pillars of your life and once they are down, a good life is not assured. Every human being on this earth needs to have his priorities set in this pattern
1.God
2.Husband/Wife
3.Family
4.Work

Following this pattern does you great good. It allows you to enjoy the peace in life because the truth is, problems can never seize to exist. Following this pattern teaches you to pay attention to your family and loved ones, to input quality time into bonding and strengthening your relationships. Those are the things that matter most in life. And when it’s time to work, don’t over load yourself, pick up a task one by one. Never get your to-do list filled with so many tasks that you become worried on how to carry them out, it is hazardous to your health, your relationship with God, and with your family, let’s just say ‘your life’ in total. Don’t over do it.

Listen, there are somethings that you just have to leave for God to do. There are some issues that don’t need our physical intervention and skills, what they need is our prayers.

As a child, you may want to help the finances in the home because it’s really bad and you can’t just sit there and watch your family’s bank account get dried up. It’s not too abnormal for you to think of making money, yes- I mean that’s the direct solution to lack of money. But as a child, what you can really do to help greatly is-
1. Pray for your family
2. Be patient for God to work things
3. Put good effort into your studies
4. Remain joyous and be a source of joy to others.

That’s the best gift your family needs from you in that situation. Play your part, and God will play his too. He’s faithful enough to care for his own children. 1Pet 5:7

So if you are an achiever and you really want to make a change around you, take it easy on yourself. Don’t stop working, but work in the healthy way.
Don’t over-think.
Don’t try to do everything, because you actually cannot. Only God can do all things. Sadly, sometimes you have to pretend like you didn’t see it, because you already have what you’re working on.
Do not put work before family.
Do not put work before your relationship with God.
Focus on the major assignment given to you and leave what doesn’t really matter.
Let others get do something about the issue also, they might even do it better than you can. Remember, it’s all about solving the problem, not who solves the problem.
Treat yourself well! Eat good food! Buy things for yourself, reward yourself when you feel you did a good thing, spend time with good friends and allow yourself to rest.

When you bring all of these into your life, you will realise that you have peace in abundance. You will smile more often, you will be at peace with God because you have a healthy relationship with him, your family will love you more, and there will be open doors for better things to come into your life. You have to take this remedy, I recommend it for a stress-free and joyful life.
